The House committee of January 6 reported a passage from a book on the insurrection, in which donald trump Told Mike Pence how cool it would be for one person – the Veep – to overthrow the will of the people.
The story came out in the book “Peril,” but the exchange between Trump and Pence was shocking enough to make it into court. After Pence told Trump he had no authority to ignore the election results, Trump replied, “If these [Trump’s] people say you have the power, wouldn’t you want that?” Pence replied, “I wouldn’t want just one person to have that authority.”
Narrative
Trump’s response is shocking… “But wouldn’t it be almost cool to have that power?” When you break this down, it’s almost like Trump saying forget if you REALLY have that power…it would be cool to do it anyway. It’s pretty close to saying despite the lack of authority, why not just undermine democracy and do it anyway – and it could show the kind of intent the Justice Department is investigating.
MSNBC
Equally shocking is the capper… when Pence persisted that he tried to find legitimate ways to challenge the election results, that was a line he wouldn’t cross, and Trump replied, “No no No. You don’t understand Mike. You can do it. I don’t want to be your friend anymore if you don’t.
