What’s the Summer 2020 Movie Release Schedule Looking Like?

Summer 2020 Movie Release: The coronavirus pandemic has caused many studios to push their big summer releases back. Some of these films have moved back by a full year. Others are going to the fall or winter.

Studios are considering what might appear based on when movie theaters will reopen and if people will want to go to them. This listing gives an idea of how empty the release schedule for the summer appears. There is a potential that studios might move films into the summer based on how bare the season is.

June 19

The Lionsgate thriller Fatale and Universal’s King of Staten Island are planned to appear at this time. The King of Staten Island is a Judd Apatow-directed film about how Pete Davidson entered the world of comedy years after his father’s death on 9/11.

July 3

There are no films here.

July 10

Universal will be released a currently untitled Purge movie on this date. The film is the fifth in the Purge franchise. There are rumors that the film will be called the Forever Purge. Another rumor suggests this will be the last Purge film.

July 17

Warner Bros. will release Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s newest film, on July 17. Very little is known about Tenet, although it will be available in IMAX, 35mm, and 70mm formats. The film has a budget of more than $200 million. It also stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Michael Caine.

July 24

Disney is releasing its live-action Mulan remake on July 24. The film was to be released in March. Focus will also release its horror film Come Play on July 24.

July 31

SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run will be released by Paramount on July 31. The film was going to arrive in May. Lionsgate will also release Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar on that date. The film was written by and stars Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, who both made Bridesmaids. Will Ferrell and Damon Wayans Jr. will also be in the film.

August 7

Antoine Fuqua’s Infinite and David Prior’s Empty Man will arrive on August 7.

August 14

Wonder Woman 1984 will appear on August 14, a few months after its originally planned date. An adaptation of the K.A. Applegate young adult novel the One and Only Ivan will also arrive on August 14.

August 21

Bill and Ted Face the Music is scheduled to appear in theaters on August 21 from United Artists. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will reprise their characters from the 1989 and 1991 Bill and Ted films.

August 28

Lionsgate is planning to release Hitman’s Bodyguard Part 2 on August 28.

September 4

The Labor Day weekend will see Paramount releasing A Quiet Place Part II nearly five months after it was supposed to appear in theaters. Peter Jackson’s the Beatles: Get Back will also be released during that weekend. The film is a documentary surrounding the band recording their Let It Be album. Paul W.S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter is also going to premiere on Labor Day weekend.
