TikTok Apparently Saved as Trump OKs Last-Minute Oracle-Walmart Deal
TikTok users in the US are probably sighing in relief, as President Trump now seems to be cool with the social media app partnered with Oracle and Walmart.
DT drastically changed his tone on Saturday, telling reporters at the White House he gave the deal his “blessing” while singing the praises of Oracle and Walmart as trusted data protection partners and the privacy of Americans. Literally a full, weird 180 here.
There were also details … like the fact that the new TikTok in the US was running, would likely be based in Texas, and that would result in a bunch of new jobs.
He went on to ensure that the US version of the app would not be affiliated with China in any way and that security would be a top priority. Trump also said TikTok will spend $ 5 million on charitable work for educational causes and pay a lot in taxes.
Just a day before, Trump was promising TikTok, as well as WeChat, would not be available to download on Sunday – because he was not satisfied with the original terms of Oracle and TikTok last weekend.
TikTok had actually taken legal action to end the de facto ban, but it looks like the talks over the past 24 hours – not to mention the inclusion of Walmart – have led the guy to agree to the ‘idea. So, in other words, ban avoided … and influencers can keep dancing.
TikTok himself appeared to confirm the news that they were not going anywhere, saying they were happy the deal addressed Trump’s national security concerns.
You must be wondering what has fundamentally changed during this time – remember, there have been reports that the parent company, ByteDance, was unwilling and / or allowed to ditch their algorithm technology.
Our sincere thanks to
