The Flaming Lips Perform Concert with Everyone in Bubbles
Flaming Lips show us how to go wild during a live show while still maintaining social distancing … it just requires inflatable bubbles for everyone.
The eccentric rock band from Oklahoma City performed earlier this week for their hometown at The Criterion, and tested their idea for a bubble concert … which they first unveiled on “The Late Show. with Stephen Colbert “.
This time around, the Lips pulled it off with a live audience in a public venue … for what feels like a multi-sensory space rock experience.
The gig would have been a test for future gigs with part of a music video shoot, as the band performed a dance remix of “Assassins of Youth” and “Brother Eye” – 2 tracks from their latest album, “American Head . “
The leader of Flaming Lips Wayne coyne has been playing with the idea of a bubble gig since the early days of the pandemic, and seems happy with the trial. He posted an excerpt from the show – with his bubble among the crowd – with the caption “Yessss !!!”
The group has actually used bubbles for themselves at shows for years, but Coyne says they’re still trying to adapt the space bubble system to allow more people to participate in their shows.
We are deepening innovation and commitment to safety, but it seems that the vaccine remains the best option. Just saying …
Our sincere thanks to
