Surfing Exploding During Pandemic, Shops Can’t Keep Boards In Stock!
Shreddin ‘the gnar takes off during the pandemic … TMZ Sports learned that surfing has exploded as people try to have fun while social distancing !!!
We spoke with several of the biggest surf shops and board makers in the country this week … and each one told us the demand was so huge that they can’t keep the boards in stock !!
“We are out of stock and cannot meet demand,” said a spokesperson for C shapes in Florida says. “The surfboard industry is on fire right now.”
Adding a representative for Chilli surfboards in California, “we sell four times the amount we usually sell.”
It all makes sense … outdoor surfing. It’s socially remote. It is cheap. And it’s a great exercise!
Here’s how spokespersons from some of the nation’s other department stores and manufacturers explained the request to us this week:
JS Industries – “More newbies have entered the market than almost ever before, with surfing one of the few activities deemed safe and accessible during COVID.”
Channel Island California Surfboards – “Surfing has doubled this year because it’s a social distancing activity and it’s free.”
Surf station in Florida – “There has been a marked increase. I can’t even set a deadline for board requests.”
Eastern Lines Surfing in NJ – “This is definitely a higher demand than in recent years … More people in the water than I have ever seen.”
But maybe South Hawaiian CoastThe Honolulu rep told us the best … by saying, “It’s pretty crazy here!”
Our sincere thanks to
