It has been over a year since our entire team met physically. Aside from the pandemic, our neglected (and dusty) offices have become less and less conducive to meeting, let alone working.
So when we had the opportunity to organize a stay in the Caroline Astor Suite at the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, we also wanted to take full advantage of the bright, comfortable and upscale space.
Incidentally, the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur also turned out to be the most voted place for our next job from our previous article.
Disclaimer: The accommodation was not sponsored by the hotel as we wanted it to be our little way to support the local hotel industry, but the upgrade to a suite was kindly offered to us at no additional cost. We were fully masked at all times while we were working together and our entire team was double vaccinated and spent 14 days after the 2nd dose.
It’s high time for a workcation
We took the duduk diam-diam at home order very seriously, and for most of us who don’t have floor to ceiling windows even enjoying the view and sunlight in the suite was a luxury.
The suite itself includes a spacious living room (equipped with a desk, plush sofas, dining table and St. Regis mini-bar), walk-in closet and private massage room. where you can order an in-room spa experience.
You probably wouldn’t expect this, but the bed was one of the highlights of this job as we slept so soundly it’s one of our best sleeps in a long time. We were even curious enough to investigate the make and model of the mattress.
It turns out that the mattresses were specially made to measure for the St Regis brand and therefore cannot be purchased in any store. Yes, we also hear your sighs of disappointment.
While preparing for our corporate meeting, we ran into a quick problem as we were unable to set up the TV in the living room to project our laptop screen.
This was easily resolved, thanks to the services of our butler who was at our entire disposal, whether it was technical problems, personal deliveries (except for the food, which had to come down to collect it personally), in room service, or request a different pillow from the pillow menu.
With the visuals of our meeting, we were able to continue our discussions without further obstacle.
In terms of space, the living room itself was large enough to comfortably accommodate all nine of us working with appropriate social distancing. One of us even moved into the walk-in closet as a private space for some work calls.
Be productive, restful and well nourished
Our stay in the suite did not end with the town hall meeting, two of us extended the stay to accomplish urgent management tasks together.
For a few days, the struggle of wondering what food to cook or order through GrabFood didn’t cross our minds as we were spoiled for choice in St Regis.
In fact, the struggle turned into making sure we could finish eating all the food.
For our daily breakfast, the usual hotel buffet option has been changed slightly for a safer method against COVID. So you just need to place your order directly from the friendly waiters and they will bring the food to your table.
On the last day before departure, in-room dining was ordered so that work could be prioritized for those final hours. No regrets there as the dining room setup for lunch was comfortable and private.
There were many more facilities available at St Regis but we chose to spend our time primarily in our suite as we had urgent matters to deal with.
As an extra-special reward, we treated ourselves to a tea party at The Drawing Room. It was also for a good cause since Marriott Bonvoy was raising funds for its breast cancer awareness campaign with Estée Lauder Malaysia.
St Regis was one of three hotels participating in this significant campaign, with 20% of the proceeds from each afternoon tea set purchase going to the National Cancer Society Malaysia.
The set was also accompanied by Estée Lauder products, which was a nice touch from the partner of St Regis for this collaboration.
Before the crowds hit teatime, we also used The Drawing Room’s quiet surroundings for a video interview. The WiFi connection there was pleasantly stable, there were no problems throughout our call.
The hotel also follows strict COVID health and safety SOPs, so we were asked to vacate the room while housekeeping performed maintenance on our suite, which made The Drawing Room the best place to stay. alternative work.
We had a very successful corporate meeting, which was the main focus of the business meeting. Having this memorable meeting place was the icing on the cake of this milestone in our work schedule.
It is certainly not an everyday luxury for most people, but we have personally appreciated the opportunity to safely meet and work in a new place for a change. And of course, it didn’t hurt that the “somewhere new” was a 5 star hotel.
