S’pore Site Selling Influencers’ Pre-Owned Pillows A Social Experiment?
Last weekend, a website named The Sleeping Beauties took to social media for allegedly selling pre-loved pillows from Singaporean influencers.
For a price of $ 20 to $ 100, customers were able to purchase their favorite influencer favorite pillow.
It was not revealed how the prices were worked out.
The site was even full with reviews claiming the pillows “smelled so good”.
Sleeping Beauties, however, has since been shut down as various influencers began to come up with explanations as to why their “used” pillows were on sale.
A social experiment or a charity work?
Different explanations have been offered to explain why pillows from 24 different influencers were offered for sale on the site.
Avander Ho, model of the most expensive S $ 200, said last night (December 21) on his Instagram story that it was a “social experiment”.
“I was contacted by this media company to do a social experiment if people would buy a pre-loved pillow. During the 10 day experience in which the website was launched, I had a lot of negative reaction from the general public and even unwanted attention from other media companies, ”said Avander.
Another influencer, Jasmine Ng, took advantage of her Instagram story to share that the 24 influencers were “contacted by a media company to join them on a social experimentation project”.
She also said that the media company involved was “not coming out anytime soon” to clarify the situation on the project and therefore had to explain it herself.
The two sides did not identify the media company involved.
Other influencers, however, had different stories to tell. Kimberley Yong, who had her pillow on sale for S $ 100, said it was all for charity.
In her Instagram story, Kimberly clarified that the pillows were brand new, contrary to what was previously reported on The Sleeping Beauties.
She also said part of the proceeds from the sale of the pillow will go to charity.
Since influencers have different histories, it’s likely that followers will have to wait until more light is shed on the issue.
Additionally, the Sleeping Beauties site has since been taken down and no pillows are available for sale.
