SIA Trials Digital Health Passport For COVID-19 Test Results, Vaccinations
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has started testing a digital health check app that validates passengers’ Covid-19 test results and vaccination statuses.
The trial, which began on Wednesday, aims to facilitate the revival of air transport.
As part of the trial, travelers on SIA flights departing from Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur will receive a digital certificate or paper health certificates with a QR code if they pass their COVID-19 tests at selected clinics.
The Singapore Immigration Authority will then scan the QR code to verify the authenticity of the certificates and ensure that passengers meet the conditions to enter the country.
SIA may extend the digital health verification process to other cities in its network if the trials are successful.
It also plans to integrate the process into its SingaporeAir mobile app from mid-2021.
Application developed by Temasek-Founded Company
The app is developed by Affinidi, a company founded in Temasek.
SIA also worked with various partners on the trial, including the Department of Transport, Singapore Civil Aviation Authority (CAAS), Immigration and Checkpoint Authority and Changi Airport Group.
According to SIA, its digital health verification process is the first in the world to be based on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Pass.
The IATA Travel Pass is a comprehensive and standardized solution to validate and authenticate all national regulations regarding the travel requirements of COVID-19 passengers.
Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung said in a Facebook post that he applauds the industry’s initiative, and the government “would support this as much. [we] may, to make it a regional or international practice.
Facilitate the reopening of the travel industry
Singapore is currently considering forming Air Travel Bubbles (ATB) with other countries, various green and expressway arrangements, and has since opened its borders to China, Australia and Taiwan.
With a digital passport app, it will make it easier and faster to verify passenger Covid-19 test results and vaccination statuses.
As a result, moves can be made seamlessly as moves increase.
Since COVID-19 vaccinations will soon be available to Singaporeans and travel will increase, this app is sure to play an important role.
