Ryan Leaf’s May Arrest Not Substance Abuse Related, Lawyer Says
Ryan leafThe domestic battery arrest was NOT drug addiction related … so says ex-NFL QB lawyer, who tells TMZ Sports the old San Diego charger is still “100% sober “.
There had been some concern after Leaf, 44 – who has struggled with drug and alcohol problems in the past – suffered a relapse which led to his arrest on May 22.
But, when we spoke to David Greenberg of Soda & Greenberg Law Firms … he told us that was not the case at all.
“He’s totally 100% sober,” Greenberg said of Leaf, “and has spent a good portion of the day over the past five years helping others stay that way.”
In fact, Greenberg says the whole alleged incident was nothing more than a “minor dispute.”
“No one was hurt,” Greenberg said. “There was no allegation of any weapon or anything like that.”
“They were a couple who had had a small, minor dispute and it’s too bad they ended up in the criminal justice system.”
We broke history … The sheet was reserved on a home battery charge around 2 p.m. on May 22 – and was officially hit with two misdemeanor charges by prosecutors this week.
But, leaf enter into a plea deal in court on Friday … and ultimately avoided further prison terms in the case.
Greenberg said Leaf and his family were happy to have it all behind them … adding that Ryan has always been committed to helping people with substance abuse issues on a daily basis.
“He’s a really good guy,” Greenberg said. “He’s a really good husband and a good father.”
