Rochester Mayor Fires Police Chief After Daniel Prude Death
Mayor of Rochester Beautiful Warren don’t let the retiring police chief Singletary La’Ron stick around for the rest of the month … she just gave him the boot like the fallout Daniel Prudedeath in custody continues.
Warren announced Monday that she had fired Singletary, anticipating plans to retire at the end of September, and suspended her communications director and senior lawyer.
As we reported … Chief Singletary announced his retirement last week following Prude’s murderous arrest by her department, but was planning to stay a few more weeks.
Singletary won’t have the chance to retire … instead, Warren announced she had fired him and suspended the communications director Justin roy and corporate lawyer Tim curtin for 30 days without pay after considering the city’s role in Prude’s death.
Warren says her initial examination shows a “pervasive problem” in the Rochester Police Department, which she described as “a problem that sees everything through the eyes of the badge and not the citizens we serve.”
The mayor says his review shows Prude’s death “was not taken as seriously as it should have been by those who reviewed the case at all levels of municipal government.”
As you know … graphic March 23 video from Prude the arrest shows the 41-year-old man with a hood placed over his head by police. Cops are then seen pressing his face to the ground for 2 minutes until he stops breathing … leading to his death a week later.
Warren says she apologized to Prude’s family for her “failures.”
