Rachel Nichols was FOCUSED on covering the NBA Finals … with ESPN reporter losing her side job following her controversial comments regarding Maria taylor.
Nichols sparked outrage after leaked audio from 2020 became public over the weekend … when it was heard over audio means to prevent Taylor from slipping into her studio hosting gig .
In the audio – which was leaked by an ESPN employee to the New York Times – Nichols is heard saying, “If you have to give [Taylor] more stuff to do because you feel the pressure from your longtime record for diversity – which, by the way, I personally know from the female side – like, go ahead. “
“Just find it somewhere else. You’re not going to find it at my place or take my thing with me.”
While Nichols apologized on Monday for his comments and congratulated Taylor on Monday, ESPN decided to keep her on the bench for the 2021 final between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns.
The network announced the rising star Malika Andrews – who has been an NBA insider since 2018 – will take the microphone from Tuesday night… saying, “We think this is the best decision for everyone involved to stay focused on the NBA Finals.”
It’s unclear if the move is permanent, but ESPN says Nichols will continue to host “The Jump.”
