The so-called “QAnon Shaman” will be in jail for a while for his role in the Capitol Riot starting January 6 – the guy has just been convicted and he’s considering a few years behind bars.
Jacob Chansley was sentenced to 41 months on Wednesday at sentencing, which comes down to around 3 years and is changing. The guy has been in federal custody the entire time.
Prosecutors were looking for a long jail time here, as they wanted to set an example for those charged with crimes in this case – and now that Chansley’s fate has been determined, that could be a sign of what will come next. others whose cases are still pending.
As we previously reported, Chansley entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors, who set a 41- to 51-month window that they said they would recommend. The judge sentenced him to the lightest part of this bench.
As we have reported… Chansley – who was among hundreds of people who stormed the Capitol, dressed in odd Viking-style attire – pleaded guilty to obstructing formal proceedings before Congress… this after being initially arrested for knowingly entering / staying in a building or restricted land without legal authorization, among other charges.
Chansley complained about his conditions in prison… including an alleged crappy diet, which he said was affecting his health. However, he was never released on bail… despite his repeated pleas.
He has been cited as a prominent figure in the fringe QAnon movement, which is teeming with conspiracy theories … and which seems to pledge allegiance to Donald trump.
Our sincere thanks to
