The guy who started this racist tirade against his black neighbor – before he was taken away by the cops – might have more trouble on the horizon … as New Jersey prosecutors dig into past allegations of similar incidents.
Sources with direct knowledge of the case tell TMZ … Edward Cagney Mathews is under investigation by the Burlington County District Attorney’s Office … not just for last week’s break-in and arrest, but for several other allegations – including a 2016 showdown with a black woman named Jazmyn Jene.
Jazmyn tells us that she exchanged words with Mathews within the condo community where they both lived, and she captured much of their wild – and seemingly menacing – interaction on camera.
In the video, Mathews openly claims to have cops in his back pocket, and he gives Jazmyn 2 options: handle a dispute they had cordially or legally. He strongly suggests that the legal route won’t work, because he’s so close to the cops… they wouldn’t do anything to him.
Eventually things get racial – Jazmyn accuses him of throwing the n-word – which Mathews somewhat denies, stating that he used the word, but not in the way she suggests. You can see it in the video … it’s pretty weak defense.
Now she says she reported the incident at the time, but nothing came of it. However, since Mathews’ arrest – as dozens of angry neighbors taunted and tossed objects – Jazmyn says investigators have apologized to him for not acting sooner.
We are told that Jazmyn shared the video of his meeting with Mathews with law enforcement, and it will be included in the prosecutor’s expanded investigation.
