Nick Diaz ain’t done yet… UFC legend recounts TMZ Sports he’s aiming to return to the Octagon this year, and he’s looking to challenge the best in the world, Kamaru Usman.
We recently spoke to Nick, 38, at Represent headquarters in SoCal … and asked the former brother Diaz – who has fought once since the start of 2015 – if and when he wants to fight.
“We are working on the end of the year,” says Diaz.
Nick told us he’s “focusing on my training right now”…but made it clear he’s not interested in fighting his way up the rankings against fighters looking to make a name for themselves.
“I don’t need to go out there and get my ass kicked by one of those young guys anyway, and it’s not that I won’t win,” Nick says, admitting, “I’m just not motivated.”
Makes sense…Nick has been in the sport for over two decades and has shared the Octagon with everyone from Georges Saint Pierre, Anderson Silva, BJ Penn, Diego Sanchezand Robbie Lawler.
FYI, Ruthless’ was Nick’s last fight…a loss by TKO at UFC 266 in September 2021. Before and after the fight, Diaz said he was unhappy with the way the fight was scheduled. However, Nick made no apologies for the actual outcome.
As for who he wants to fight, Nick has someone in mind.
“I want to fight for the title. I don’t want to do all that – I’m 38.”
Of course, the titleholder is also the best pound-for-pound fighter in the MMA world… Kamaru Usman. The Nigerian Nightmare have not lost since May 2013.
How would Nick fare against the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world?
“I think I will beat him.”
