NFL’s Biggest Stars Express COVID Concerns Over Start of Training Camp
The biggest stars in the NFL are speaking a few days before showing up to training camp for another season – and they all say the same thing … IT’S NOT SURE YET !!!
On Sundays, stallions like Russell wilson, Patrick Mahomes, JJ Watt, Odell Beckham Jr. and several others expressed similar feelings about having to restart in the middle of a pandemic – that the league has not presented a clear plan of action.
It’s pretty straightforward … these guys say they only have a few months left to get back on the field, but say there hasn’t been any indication or direction from the top honchos in the NFL on how to protect players, and what the protocol will be. It is alarming.
Russ, for example, made it clear that the safety of his family could be at risk if the league did not get along, saying … “I’m worried. My wife is pregnant. NFL training camp is about to start. And there is still no clear plan for the health of the players and the safety of the family. “We want to play football but we also want to protect our loved ones.”
He, along with all the other top players who stepped in, finished with the hashtag … #WeWantToPlay. JJ, for his part, made clear demands on what he and his teammates were looking for with a bulleted list. Looks like the NFL has fallen behind on these very basic precautions and procedures for handling positive tests.
JJ’s roster – which asked for more clarity on whether players would be tested / how often, standards on how to handle a player when sick, etc. – made it clear that the league had the power here. He says the way their deal is set up, the NFL can get them to go to training camp and play games … even if players want to opt out for safety reasons.
Of course, if players hold on and refuse to play unless their requests are met … it could mean truncated season – like in MLB and NBA right now – or maybe no season at all. The ball is in the hands of the NFL at this point 😬
