The NFL faces yet another lawsuit… this time, musician Bobby Nunn says the league used his famous song “Rocket 2 U” during numerous broadcasts – including a recent “Sunday Night Football” game in 2022 – but never compensated him for it.
In the lawsuit, filed in New York on Wednesday and obtained by TMZ SportsNunn says the hit he wrote and produced for the Jets in 1988 has been used multiple times without his permission by the NFL and NBC Universal.
Nunn specifically claims that his song was played during the Jan. 3 broadcast of the “SNF” Packers vs. Vikings game. In the docs, Nunn included a screenshot of the part of the show where he says the melody could be heard.
Nunn, who is perhaps best known for his song “She’s Just a Groupie,” claims the NFL never cleared the song for use … and says when he contacted the league and his partner TV about it, they denied the offense .
Nunn is asking for damages … as well as the league and NBC to stop using her song without her consent.
This is now at least the third time the NFL has been sued by a high profile plaintiff in recent months – you’ll recall, both Jon Gruden and Brian Flores are also involved in lawsuits against The Shield.
We have reached out to the NFL for comment, but so far no word has been given.
