Most Attractive Employers To Work For In 2021

2020 marks the third year of the Graduates ‘Choice Awards (GCA), an awards ceremony hosted by Talentbank to showcase the top employers’ choices for graduates in Malaysia.

For this year, they invited more than 24,000 graduates of private and public universities in Malaysia to vote for those they believed to be the most attractive employers to work for in 2021.

The results are the result of votes obtained from students between September 1, 2019 and August 31, 2020.

To ensure its legitimacy, the results of the GCA were reviewed by an audit committee made up of career guidance practitioners from various universities.

There were 700 companies in 35 industries to choose from, and here are this year’s top 10, based on graduates’ picks.

1. Maybank

Maybank held the top spot for its second year in a row.

Founded in 1960, Maybank Group offers a range of products and services including commercial, investment and Islamic banking, insurance and venture capital to name a few.

He was recognized for his Outstanding Practice Initiative in Work-Life Integration at the Life At Work 2019 Awards.

They were also named Best Overall Private Bank (ASEAN) for the Global Private Banking Innovation Awards 2020.

Based on their reputation as one of the best banking companies in SEA, this suggests that the workplace is a great opportunity for employees to transfer overseas.

Some current vacancies offered by Maybank are:

  • Business Analyst, TB – Cash Channel, Transaction Banking
  • Assistant Manager, Client Coverage

Google LLC doesn’t need to be featured for what they do. The tech giant was launched in the United States and opened its office in Malaysia in 2011.

Google Malaysia is primarily a marketing and sales center specializing in such endeavors as the Google Display Network, which places ads on news sites and blogs.

The Malaysian team is also locating Google’s platform by populating Google Maps with real-time traffic data and Streetview.

Google Malaysia is strengthening its status as an attractive employer with its Gerai Gugel cafeteria, which offers daily lunch buffets. Who doesn’t love free meals?

They were not on the previous year’s list of the most attractive employer brands of 2019/2020, as it only highlighted the top 5.

4. Pturds

Petroliam Nasional Berhad, better known as Petronas, is a Malaysian oil and gas company established in 1974.

It has lost 2 positions compared to the second last year on GCA’s Most Attractive Employers list.

My take on why students want to work here is to have the prestige of working for a big local name that is wholly owned by the government, in addition to his high salary.

Graduates may also be attracted to work at Petronas because of the possibility of obtaining guaranteed employment, at least temporarily.

Students who have been awarded Petronas University Scholarships are required to serve in the company for at least 2 years upon completion of their studies.

The company is looking for these openings:

  • Senior Graphic Designer – Contractor
  • Marketing Manager
  • Executive, Transformation Office
  • Manager, LEAD Academy and Skills Development (APAC)

Another new name on this year’s list is Shopee.

The Singaporean e-commerce platform was launched in 2015 and expanded its presence here in the same year.

Perhaps what makes Shopee an attractive place to work for graduates are its learning and development opportunities and its vibrant office with a pool table and comfortable ottomans in the meeting rooms.

The platform also offers plenty of employment opportunities for employees ranging from different fields of study, making it accessible to graduates and experienced professionals.

The positions they are looking to fill are:

  • Video editor
  • Trainer – Community of sellers
  • Strategic project management (management of the seller community)
  • Business Development – Admin (vendor management)

6. Intel

If you own a Lenovo, HP, and Dell laptop, look at the bottom of your keyboard and you’ll likely find Intel’s blue sticker.

Intel Malaysia operates in Kedah and Penang with involvement in design, manufacturing, IT, finance, as well as marketing and sales.

Employees are involved in the company’s innovation in microprocessors, chipsets and other computer products.

One thing that could potentially attract graduates to work here is the fact that Intel Malaysia transparently shows its benefits and rewards.

The equity benefits, where employees at all levels are granted restricted stock units that can be converted into shares to be bought and sold in the market, are attractive.

Eligible employees can also purchase Intel stock at a discount twice a year through their employee stock purchase plan.
