Scary moment on Tuesday’s MLB Diamond … an MLB umpire was hit near the eye by a broken bat — but somehow it looks like the official will be fine.
The chilling scene happened in the ninth inning of the Dodgers’ game against the Angels in Los Angeles, when Mike Trout was flat out looking to bring the Halos back from a 2-0 deficit.
On a 3-2 count, Trout hit a ball so hard, his bat shattered … and a large splintered piece of wood hit the umpire at home plate Nate Tomlinson right in the face.
You can see in the video from the game broadcast, Tomlinson was almost stabbed in the eyeball by the jagged edge of the bat, and he immediately collapsed to the ground.
Coaches ran to help Tomlinson and video shows he was bleeding from multiple areas of his head.
Tomlinson was forced out of the game – but thankfully left on his own. Second base umpire Laz Diaz eventually replaced Tomlinson for the final outs of the game.
Trout, who ultimately chose the part, was stunned by the scene. His Angels would lose the match, 2-0.
