chinese tennis star Peng shuai has resurfaced – it seems – after being MIA for weeks.
Peng was at the center of a tennis tournament in Beijing on Sunday … an event sponsored by the China Open.
The 35-year-old former doubles champion wears a dark blue blazer as she poses with guests at the Fila Kids Junior Tennis Challenger final.
The photo was posted on the organization’s WeChat page.
Peng had not been seen since November 2, when she accused the former vice premier Zhang gaoli for having sexually assaulted her. The 2 have had a relationship from time to time over the years.
The allegation had swift consequences… Peng’s social media post – where she laid the charge – was suppressed and China’s censored media ignored the story.
What is not clear … if the photo is part of a staged event and if Peng is taken hostage. She has not emerged freely and has not spoken since making her claim.
The Women’s Tennis Ass’n has made it clear that they will not play in China until Peng’s fate is clear. Members of the group are skeptical that the photo shows Peng posing of his own accord.
There were other photos that also surfaced … which show Peng having dinner on Saturday night at a restaurant in Beijing.
Naomi Osaka and Novak Djokovic spoke out on Peng’s disappearance.
Naomi said: “Hi everyone, I don’t know if you’ve been following the news, but I recently learned that another tennis player went missing shortly after revealing that she had been sexually assaulted. . “
“Censorship is never acceptable at any cost, I hope Peng Shuai and his family are doing well. I am in shock at the current situation and send him love and light. #Whereispengshuai”
Even Novak Djokovic, the world’s No. 1 ranked tennis player, spoke out, saying, “When I heard Peng Shuai’s story, I was shocked. I hope she is well and that we can find her as soon as possible. “
