Michigan Election Official Rats Out Toilet Mail-In ‘Ballot Box’
What one Michigander thought was a joke could possibly get them into legal trouble after putting a toilet in their front yard and asking people to leave their ballots inside.
It’s wild … a Democratic election official appointed Barb byrum – an Ingham County employee – filed a police report denouncing a Mason town resident who recently performed this grin-like stunt, which is obviously not meant to be taken literally or seriously .
It doesn’t matter though, as Byrum argues that what this person did – tell people (whether joking or not) to drop their ballots in his washroom via signage – is in fact illegal. and amounts to electoral falsification. Byrum says it’s illegal to take illegal possession of a mail-in ballot, and believes that posting could mislead people about the process.
So in other words … she’s worried that some doofus will actually come and drop their ballots down the toilet, thinking that’s a legitimate way to count. Sounds crazy, but hey … Barb here is just looking for newbies who might be voting for the first time.
If that sounds extreme and over the top … let it be a sign of our situation in this country, with President Trump sewing doubt about the electoral process, in particular with regard to postal voting. It would seem that some people are trying to make it an ironic gag, but it is clear that the people leading the electoral process on the ground do not find it funny.
We contacted Mason PD to see if they had followed up on this and if the residents had indeed discarded their lawn ornaments. So far, no word in return.
Our sincere thanks to
