Michaela coel would be in the new sequel to “Black Panther” – currently being filmed after Chadwick bosemandeath – and fans are wondering … curtains for Letitia wright???
The casting news just fell on Wednesday via Variety, who says the “I May Destroy You” star is definitely in it… but her role, for now, is unknown / unnamed and kept under wraps. The studio itself also doesn’t confirm … SOPs for stories like this.
The report – assuming it’s true – may not seem like much at first glance … but there’s a lot of background here, which raises suspicion. The point is, Marvel took a while to officially announce who the hell is going to be in the new movie, sure – which is odd, since the movie is literally filming in Atlanta right now.
The assumption is that a majority of the distribution of Pt. 1 will return – as Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, etc. – but none of them, including Letitia (who played a major role the first time around) are safe at this point… and in light of this news, it’s giving people a break for the sake of LW.
Here’s the deal … Letitia is the only OG cast member who has been embroiled in controversy lately – and there’s a ton of circumstantial evidence that seems to indicate she’s struggling with Marvel and possibly with it. Disney in general.
From tweets she’s loved in the recent past – before she completely wiped out all of her social media not too long ago – all signs are that she may not be coming back … and that its redesign could be on the horizon, which is why the Michaela addition is fueling the theories.
Pile on the fact that she was accused of being an anti-vaxxer last December – this after retweeting what many have called conspiracy theory videos questioning the legitimacy of the jab – it adds even more reason to believe Letitia may be done with the franchise.
It’s a big deal, and a huge potential blow (for Letitia) if it turns out that Michaela is, in fact, going to play an older version of Shuri (T’Challa’s sister in ‘BP’). The reason… Shuri actually becomes the new Black Panther after T’Challa passed the torch in the comic book series.
While the plot details for the sequel to “Black Panther” haven’t surfaced yet – you have to imagine that they’ll be going down that route since their main man is no longer around to do it.
It could be #WakandaForever, but it could just as easily be #LetitiaNeverAgain.
