MDEC PRISMA Grants Open For M’sian Digital Content Creators To Apply

It’s an opportunistic month for creatives in Malaysia. Previously, Clubhouse announced its very first Accelerator Program to Support Creatives, and recently MDEC just updated the 5 Key Programs as part of their recent PRISMA and BATIK Digital grants.

PRISMA (Malaysian Creative Industry Stimulus Package) is an initiative of the Malaysian Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) with a total value of RM 89.2 million and aiming to benefit approximately 9,000 creative industry players in Malaysia .

BATIK Digital and PRISMA will each offer up to RM 40,000 and RM 50,000 respectively. There will be a few cycles and each cycle will only accept 40 applicants, with a total of 200-250 slots available for both programs.

These 5 key programs are:

  • Digital Creative Content Market Access and Business Matching (2P)
  • Digital Content Business Development (EDP)
  • Dissemination of creative content
  • Digital content technology infrastructure support (BATIK Digital)
  • PRISMA Digital Content Exchange (DCG PRISMA)

1. Digital Creative Content Market Access and Business Matching (2P)

Goal: Provide assistance to companies offering digital creative content services and intellectual property marketing.

What he does: Exposes companies to the international market, creates business opportunities for their intellectual property and / or services, and creates sales and marketing of their intellectual property and / or services.

Eligible applicants: (B2B) Digital creative content companies and studios involved in animation, interactive games, news media and digital comics.

Duration of the program: February to December 2021.

2. Digital content business development (EDP)

Goal: Minimize skill gaps in the digital creative content industry covering components such as technical acumen, business acumen and educator development.

What he does: Enables studios to recruit and welcome new recruits by reducing the amount of in-house training required, encourages community sharing through formalizing instructions from industry seniors, and takes advantage of cross-training of business skills involving creative knowledge.

Eligible applicants: Institute of higher education students, new graduates (diploma or degree), unemployed talents, as well as semi-skilled and skilled talents.

Duration of the program: March to December 2021.

How to register: This way. Registrations will be open at least two weeks before each session.

3. Dissemination of creative content

Goal: To assist Malaysians, especially young people, who want to deepen their knowledge in the online streaming industry and the production of creative video content.

What he does: Encourages new live streaming activities for Malaysian-made digital games, establishes promotional and training platforms for local digital games on social media, and encourages generation of new content and revenue through platforms online video.

Eligible applicants: Malaysian aged 16 and over interested in digital games and creative content. Applicants without development and streaming experience will be prioritized.

Duration of the program: March to July 2021.

How to register: Through this form. The registration deadline is April 11, 2021.

4. Support for digital content technology infrastructure (BATIK Digital)

Goal: Maintain the quality of content, data security and consistency of deliverables by adapting to the new standard through reimbursement of incentives for technology solutions.

What he does: Reduces additional software and hardware costs for companies / studios, intensifies the readiness of local studios to seize global opportunities and to be on par with international studios, and ensures business continuity for local creative studios affected by the pandemic .

Eligible applicants: Companies or studios involved in the development and creation of animation, digital games, interactive media and digital comics. They should also have a proven track record and portfolio in the creation of intellectual property or contract work services in digital creative content.

Duration of the program: March to July 2021.

How to register: Through this form. There are three lots, so the closing dates are April 15, April 30 and May 25, 2021.

5. PRISMA Digital Content Grant (DCG PRISMA)

Goal: Help local creative industry players adopt and adapt to the new standard through the creation of new and compelling intellectual property (IP), creating opportunities for businesses to continue to develop quality creative content and providing digital marketing and distribution activities.

What he does: Encourages the creation of new digital creative content that can be accepted, marketed and presented globally, provides opportunities and platforms for industry players to develop and create digital creative content, and supports creators of digital creative content in digital marketing and promotion of existing digital creative content.

Eligible applicants: Companies or studios involved in the development and creation of animation, digital games, interactive media and digital comics, with more than 50% of the capital held by a Malaysian. Program members should also have over a year of experience and a proven portfolio in creative content management.

Duration of the program: March to December 2021.

The PRISMA initiative aims to achieve some of the goals of MyDIGITAL, which includes the production of 200 IP addresses (from animation to games) for this sector, achieving an annual growth rate of 8% for digital content exports and by reaching the top 20 of the Knowledge ranking. and technology as part of the Global Innovation Index.

According to a report by MIDA Insights, the country’s digital games sector generated $ 100 million in revenue for 2018 and will experience a compound annual growth rate of 10.9% (2018 to 2023), the MDEC CEO noted, Surina Shukri.

“These five MDEC-led programs are now aligned with PRISMA and updated to ensure they can continue to meet the growing demands of the digital workforce and keep pace with industry trends. In fact, some of these programs have been must-have industry initiatives and have allowed the animation and digital games sectors to thrive, ”she concluded.
