Matthew McConaughey advocates for gun reform in the wake of the tragic mass shooting at the elementary school in Uvalde, Texas…which happens to be her hometown.
The actor shared his thoughts on Tuesday, hours after the shooter walked into Robb Elementary School and killed 21 peopleincluding 19 students and 2 teachers.
He wrote: “As you all know there was another mass shooting today, this time in my hometown of Uvalde, Texas. Once again we have tragically proven that we are not not responsible for the rights our freedoms give us.”
Matthew’s added, “The real call to action now is for every American to look longer and deeper in the mirror and ask themselves, ‘What do we really value? How can we solve the problem? What small sacrifices can we individually make today, to preserve a healthier and safer nation, state and neighborhood tomorrow?”
Her message continued: “We cannot time out once again, make excuses and accept these tragic realities as the status quo. As Americans, Texans, mothers and fathers, it is time to reevaluate and renegotiate our wants from our needs. We have to reorder our values and find common ground above this devastating American reality that has tragically become our children’s problem.”
Knowing clearly that the national conversation will become political, Matthew also urged people on both sides of the political aisle to do better – “Steps must be taken so that no parent has to go through what Uvalde’s parents and the others before them endured.”
As we told you, the shooter was an 18-year-old local high school student. All of his victims would have been in the same classroom.
