Lil Nas X sparked a wave of criticism online for kissing a dancer during the BET Awards, but at the FCC… it was basically crickets. So, a sign of progress?
TMZ got the complaints filed with the Federal Communications Commission and there were only 3 after Lil Nas talked a lot about the performance of “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)”… which he buttoned up with the kiss.
A Bronx viewer wrote to the FCC around 1 a.m.… “I was very disturbed to see 2 men practically having sex on stage when the awards show is supposed to be a family show. It is ridiculous and children and adults are forced to endure it. Unacceptable and I will unsubscribe from the BET network. TASTING AND DISTURBING !!!!!!!! “
Another pissed off viewer wrote: “During a performance 2 gay men kissed. Why are you showing this on TV. It’s disgusting and bad for children to see because it’s unnatural.” #Ugh.
The third reproach came from a guy in Philadelphia, but it was mostly about Satanism than the kiss.
That’s it. Just the 3. For comparison, Cardi B and Megan you stallionthe Grammy performance of “WAP”, and J Lo and ShakiraThe Super Bowl halftime show inspired over 1,000 each FCC Complaints.
As we reported … Lil Nas delivered a breathtaking performance at the BET Awards … not only with his hit title but also with a tribute to Michael jackson‘s “Remember the time.”
Of course, the rapper saw well over 3 people ringing on social media – so much, in fact, that Lil Nas applauded the haters… especially the one who called him up for using “AFRICAN CULTURE FOR S ** * S LIKE THAT !!!!!!! “
The insanely low number of FCC complaints might have more to do with lower viewership – at least compared to the Grammys or a Super Bowl – but hopefully part of that is about tolerance as well.
More than anything, Twitter is the new hub for hate… the FCC must love.
