Lea Remini says her enrollment at NYU stands in stark contrast to the upbringing she says she received as a Scientologist — or rather the staggering lack thereof.
The actress peeled back even more layers to religion – one she says she was deeply involved in, from a young age – in a lengthy Twitter thread on Sunday … which ended with gratitude for being able to break for free and get proper schooling.
1. This photo was taken when I was 16.
I was so proud of this headshot. I thought my side pony made me look versatile and like an accomplished actress.
I was ready to conquer the world.
But at this point, I had been living the life of an adult for years, even though I was a child. pic.twitter.com/7XbJ5ReucA

Leah begins by describing an old photo she submitted when she was 16, explaining how she had to start working at an early age to support herself and her family… which she says was necessary due to the his family’s affiliation with the Church of Scientology.
She says the church has drained them of their time, attention and, most importantly, resources. And not only that, but she claims that she was deprived of a formal and normal education for years throughout her youth…something she says is a direct result of the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard .
3. Even though I was only 16 at the time, I hadn’t had any kind of formal education for years.
Instead, I worked for years to support myself and my family.
For the last 38 years of my life, I have lived and worked with an 8th grade education.

LR connects his whole life around Scientology… up to his circle of friends, even employers, including his first agent. As she’s stated many times over the years, she says she felt suffocated by the church… and now says she had to get into showbiz just to survive, which doesn’t seem like it. easy.
Leah describes being repeatedly turned down, until she finally broke through. Eventually, she says she was able to escape Scientology completely and now looks back as a current NYU undergraduate, marveling at what she was able to accomplish without them on her back.
10. And the idea that I would leave Scientology and work to expose the abuses that current and former members face was not even a thought I could conjure up. Only the worst enemies of Scientology would think so.

The ‘King of Queens’ star was accepted to college last year at the ripe old age of 50 … and it looks like things are going well on that front.
As for his denigration of Scientology… that’s nothing new. She had a huge show on A&E that ran for a few years, which exposed all kinds of so-called secrets about the church – which the majority of Scientology leaders have categorically refused in very strong terms, often calling her a liar.
