Eddie Mekka, who played Carmine’s most famous, the “Big Ragu”, on “Laverne & Shirley” has passed away … TMZ has learned.
Eddie’s brother, Warren Mekjian, tells TMZ… Eddie was found dead at his home in Newhall, Calif., on Saturday. We are told that friends and neighbors got worried when they hadn’t heard from him for a few days and called the cops to go see him.
Warren tells us that Eddie had recently been hospitalized with blood clots and could barely walk… there is no indication that his death was suspicious or that there was any foul play involved.
Eddie played Carmine Ragusa – Shirley’s boyfriend on the show from 1976 to 1983. Carmine sang regularly on the show. Eddie also had a role in one of the producers of “Laverne & Shirley” Garry marshallother shows, “Blansky’s Beauties” – and he had been nominated for a Tony Award for his role in “The Lieutenant” … before his television career took off.
Like many TV stars of the ’70s and’ 80s, Eddie also had guest roles on “Fantasy Island” and “The Love Boat” … and later was a part of the ABC hit, ” Family Matters “.
Eddie has a daughter, Mia, with Yvonne Marie Grace who he married in 1994.
