Kate Bush has a moment in 2022 that couldn’t be clearer than what’s happening this weekend – namely, thousands of people coming together to dance to one of his songs.
It’s the singer’s 64th birthday on Saturday, which also coincides with ‘Wuthering Heights Day’…an annual event where her legions of fans come to flock to different venues around the world to collectively dance to her signature song of the same name.
Of course, they’re all dressed in red… a direct homage to KB’s iconic music video – in which she also features killer hippy-dippy moves in a field, surrounded by woods.
Supposedly, it’s been going on for a while — dating back to 2013, it seems — but the annual meeting was put on hiatus during COVID and hasn’t resumed until now. Since then, Kate has seen a resurgence in pop culture…thanks to “Stranger Things” using her song “Running Up That Hill.”
Soooo, thanks to this renewed popularity… this year’s Wuthering Heights Day is crazy, with pop-ups in Sydney, different parts of the UK and beyond – turnout could be higher than ever, frankly .
Seems like Kate Bush’s relevance in society is stronger than it would have been at her peak. When you have a ‘Midsommar’ shindig like this – it’s hard to deny, she’s still a thing.
