John Daly Has Surgery to Treat Bladder Cancer, 85% Chance It Returns
Golf legend John daly says he had a procedure to treat bladder cancer … but doctors told him there was a high chance he would come back.
Daly, 54 – who won the PGA Championship in 91 – said he has struggled with back pain and kidney stones in recent weeks.
But, after passing the stones, Daly was still in pain, and the doctors eventually determined he had cancer.
“[The urologist said] there don’t seem to be any stones in there. But unfortunately you have bladder cancer, ”Daly told The Golf Channel.
“After doing the MOT [scan] I was about to sip my Diet Coke and he said, “Don’t drink anything. We’ve got to get you back here and get rid of this cancer. “”
Daly says he’s already had surgery to remove the cancer – but doctors say the fight is far from over.
“[The doctor] says there’s an 85% chance he’ll come back. So I have to go back and see him in 3 months. They will probably have to remove it again, ”Daly said.
“It’s probably going to come back, then another 3 months you don’t know. You just don’t know. Lucky for me they caught it early on, but bladder cancer is something I don’t all know about. details. But, it doesn’t look like it can go away. We’ll just see what happens. Maybe there is a miracle. “
Daly says he will fight hard – and even change his diet and smoking habits following the diagnosis.
“I cut my way back to the Diet Coke and count the minutes before I can smoke a cigarette. I’m trying to quit smoking, ”Daly said.
“Doctors aren’t saying it’s too late. Unfortunately, it is cancer that keeps coming back. But I will listen to them and I will try to quit smoking. If it comes back, it comes From six months to a year, if it doesn’t go away, I’m gonna live my life. I am going to have fun. “
