International Biz Travelers Can Now Connect@Changi Without Quarantine

In a bid to resume international business meetings in Singapore amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Connect @ Changi was launched today (February 18) to allow business travelers to meet at a designated facility in the Singapore Expo.

They would not need to undergo a pre-quarantine, but are required to remain at the facilities throughout their stay. They should also take regular Covid-19 tests instead of quarantine.

Dubbed the first of its kind in the world, Connect @ Changi currently has 150 rooms and 40 meeting rooms of varying sizes, accommodating from 4 to 22 people.

When fully operational later this year, it will accommodate up to 1,300 business travelers at any one time. He expects to receive his first guests in March.

The project is being developed by a Singapore consortium led by Temasek and includes The Ascott Limited, Changi Airport Group, Sheares Healthcare Group, SingEx-Sphere Holdings and Surbana Jurong.

How much do the rooms cost?

The four-star Connect @ Changi offers rooms starting at S $ 384.

This includes three meals, a minibar, toiletries, Wi-Fi, round-trip airport transfer, as well as the Covid-19 tests required during the stay.

Those who choose to stay there will be transported from the airport to Singapore Expo directly after passing a Covid-19 test at the airport.

They will need to stay in the room awaiting the result of the initial test, which will take about six hours to process.

Those who test negative can then have meetings with local and international companies with safe distancing measures in place. On the one hand, meetings will be done with waterproof floor-to-ceiling glass panels in place.

In addition, the areas that local residents and business travelers can access are physically separated and have different ventilation systems.

Vice Premier Heng Swee Keat, who was present at the Connect @ Changi launch, noted that virtual meetings cannot entirely replace face-to-face interactions.

“Face-to-face interactions are important for developing relationships, strengthening partnerships and exploring new business opportunities,” he said.

“For some, physical meetings are still important for making and concluding business deals and making important decisions.”

Rooms are now open for booking at or via the Connect @ Changi mobile app.
