For many years, the Singapore Big Sale (GSS) has been a much anticipated event for shopaholics and Singaporeans trying to get their money’s worth.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the sale will continue this year – the premier retail event will be held virtually for the first time in 26 years.
The is part of the Singapore $ 45 million SingaporeRediscovers campaign by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Enterprise Singapore and Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC).
The campaign aims to give Singaporean lifestyle and tourism a boost after demand slows this year.
eGSS: Shop. To win. Experience
This year, the annual sale is called “eGSS: Shop. To win. Experience ”, which plans to help local retailers embrace digitalization.
800 brands from various industries will take part in the month-long event which runs from September 9 to October 10.
GSS is organized by the Singapore Retailers Association (SRA), in collaboration with the Association of Singapore Attractions (ASA), the Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC) and the Textiles and Fashion Federation (TaFF).
Before the announcement of the virtual GSS, the SRA had announced in May that it was canceling the sale due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
SRA Executive Director Rose Tong said the sale was resumed due to “popular demand from retailers”, who felt “something was missing”.
What to expect?
The sale will take place on SRA’s GoSpree app, where products and offerings from retailers will be consolidated.
Technologies such as virtual and augmented reality will come into play to provide a more realistic experience when viewing products.
Shoppers can expect daily deals in different categories such as restaurants, hotels, shops and attractions. The platform will also host interactive games where buyers can win prizes.
There will also be side events such as virtual workshops and a live Facebook broadcast with popular influencers.
The GoSpree platform is expected to go live on July 28.
