UPDATE
Floyd MayweatherThe long-awaited boxing match in Dubai this weekend has been canceled… TMZ Sports has learned.
Sources tell us… the exhibition fight – which was supposed to pit Mayweather against his former sparring partner Don Moore Saturday on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab hotel – will not descend again after the death of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to WAM, the official news agency of the United Arab Emirates, government officials have suspended “work in ministries, departments, federal and local institutions and the private sector” for the next three days due to the Sheikh’s death. Khalifa…and, according to our sources, that means the Floyd fight can’t happen this weekend.
We are told, however, that both boxers could attempt to reschedule the match for next week.
Floyd has yet to comment on the fight’s cancellation … although he did mourn the death of Sheikh Khalifa in an Instagram post early Friday morning.
Waiting for your permission to load Instagram media.
“I send my condolences to the entire United Arab Emirates,” he said. “RIP Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed.”
Both Mayweather and Moore have been in Dubai for the past few days to promote the fight… with Moore saying he was legitimately shooting to beat the boxing legend 50-0.
The fight was expected to be only Floyd’s third fight since he beat Conor McGregor in 2017. Mayweather has already beaten Tenshin Nasukawa in a exhibition in 2018and seemed to handle easily Logan Paul in an unrated exhibition in 2021.
