Some Michigan fairgoers jumped into the action as a crowded carnival was seconds away from the knockdown – and it’s pretty clear these folks earned themselves free cotton candy and churros… for life.
Video of the terrifying incident shows the Magic Carpet Ride in full swing Thursday night at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City. As nearly a dozen passengers cry out for help, you can see the base of the ride starting to tip wildly.
Customers nearby were watching, wondering what to do … until one of them ran and jumped onto the base. Several other people quickly followed suit, leaning over and weighing him down.
When the ride finally came to a stop, the crowd cheered and everyone got off unharmed. According to local reports, no one was injured and the ride was dismantled and scrapped on Friday morning.
The company responsible for the ride has yet to comment on what went wrong. Ditto for the festival organizers.
The Cherry Festival, now in its 95th year, was visited by President Biden the weekend of July 4. It doesn’t look like he’s been around the doomed magic carpet. Ice cream cones are much safer … and delicious.
