Dyson to open St James Power Station HQ in 2022, now hiring in S’pore

In November last year, UK electronics company Dyson announced it would move its headquarters (HQ) in Singapore to the St James Power Plant in 2021.

Previously, Dyson said its decision to move its headquarters to Singapore “reflects the growing importance of Asia” to the company.

St James Power Station is Singapore’s first coal-fired power station. It was then used as a warehouse and was more recently a center of nightlife.

Dyson worked with developer Mapletree to restore the building, and the first phase of the restoration is now complete.

As such, Dyson announced today (November 19) that it has started moving into its new headquarters, which will officially open next year.

“We are honored to bring this iconic building back to life as the global headquarters. Dyson scientists and engineers will add to its already important history through the discoveries they make and the technologies they develop, ”said Dyson CEO Roland Krueger.

Spanning 110,000 square feet, the corporate headquarters will house three levels of laboratories and research and technology offices, as well as a heritage gallery in one of the historic fireplaces to celebrate the history of the building and the region.

It aims to double its pool of engineering and scientific talent, with an emphasis on power electronics, energy storage, sensors, vision systems, embedded software, robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and connected devices.

Earlier in April, Dyson said it would hire at least 250 additional engineers and scientists in Singapore over the next five years as part of its S $ 5.1 billion global investment in future technologies.

At that time, around 700 engineers and scientists were working for the Dyson team in Singapore of 1,400 people.

A recent check on its Careers page revealed that Dyson is currently recruiting for 154 positions in Singapore, from internships to more executive positions.
