Alleged story told in WSJ reporter Michael benderThe new book “Frankly We Won This Election: The Inside Story of Trump’s Loss.” Bender claims Hitler’s anecdote was told to Trump’s ex-chief of staff, the general. John F. Kelly.
From an extract obtained by The Guardian … Bender’s book claims that Trump was visiting Europe in 2018 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I – and at one point during the trip… he turned to Kelly and reportedly said, “ Well, Hitler did. a lot of good stuff. ”Kelly would have been stunned, as you can imagine.
The veteran military man backed down, telling Trump he was wrong, but DT cited Germany’s economic recovery under Hitler. General Kelly pushed back further, reminding Trump of who was on the good and the bad side of history, while also drawing a line from point A to point B in regards to Hitler’s rise and ultimately his atrocities.
Kelly also reportedly said… “You can never say anything in favor of Adolf Hitler. You just can’t.” Indeed, truer words were not spoken.
Trump reportedly denied making the remark after the fact, but Bender’s book claims that several anonymous sources have confirmed it.
