Don Don Donki Partners GrabMart To Deliver To Malaysian Homes

Fans of Don Don Donki, you can now shop for your favorite Japanese products in the store on GrabMart. Their in-app offerings include snacks, ready-to-eat meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and daily staples.

Also today, Grab SEA announced its partnership with Don Don Donki in the region, starting with Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

For those unfamiliar with Don Don Donki, this is a Japanese discount chain store (better known as Don Quijote in Japan) selling a variety of imported but affordable Japanese products.

To help you gauge their popularity and demand, there are over 580 Don Quijote stores in Japan and 12 overseas Don Donki stores as of July 7, 2020. They finally opened their first Malaysian outlet ago. about a week in lot 10, Bukit Bintang, taking up to 3 floors of space.

Not too long ago, Don Don Donki also launched his Shopee store which delivers nationwide. However, the difference between the Grab store and its Shopee store is that the former has a better variety of perishables, including ready-to-eat foods like Karaage Bento, Chicken Katsu Don, etc.

However, they don’t have the daily essentials like face masks, which you can get in their Shopee store.

From a consumer’s point of view and as a person passionate about Japanese products (especially discounted ones), the presence of Don Don Donki in GrabMart makes it easier to buy such products and offers more variety, their competitor the closest being Shojikiya.

Although GrabMart listed Japanese products before Don Don Donki’s presence in Malaysia, they were mostly scattered across different grocers and convenience stores. So having Don Don Donki in GrabMart means a central store where I can search for all of these products in one place at affordable prices.

The incorporation of Don Don Donki into GrabMart is also timely, especially now that it’s safer to skip the line at their hugely popular physical store during the pandemic. At this time, however, the next day delivery option is only available in Singapore, and more countries will follow soon.

This partnership doesn’t just benefit fans in the e-commerce sense, as Malaysian consumers visiting the physical outlet (and future ones) can now pay through GrabPay and receive GrabRewards points for their transactions.

As usual, these points can be redeemed for discounts on Grab services and at GrabRewards partner stores. That aside, Don Don Donki also has his own app that you can register as a member and earn dMiles points for redeeming coupons.

A second Don Don Donki outlet is also expected to open this year at the Tropicana Gardens Mall, Petaling Jaya.
