English cricketer Alex hales acknowledges having worn blackface for a Tupac costume in 2009 … saying it was “incredibly reckless and stupid”.
Hales, 32, is speaking out after posting a photo this week of himself wearing dark make-up on his face and body … claiming she was supposed to honor her favorite rapper at a costume party themed on the music.
“The theme was musicians and Tupac is, was and always will be my favorite musician, so I left like him,” Hales said in the video.
“Obviously, I realize this is incredibly disrespectful and I want to apologize for the offense this has undoubtedly caused.”
He continued … “It was incredibly reckless and stupid of me and I apologize, and I apologize to the club for the embarrassment this would have caused them.”
“I deplore all forms of racism and discrimination.”
Apology comes amid allegations of widespread racism in the sport … as a former Yorkshire cricketer Azeem Rafiq says his experiences were so bad that he needed medication to treat mental health issues.
Rafiq also accused Hales of other racism… claiming that Hales’ dog, “Kevin” was named after a general racist term his teammates used to describe black people, which he categorically denies.
The allegations are being investigated by the England and Wales Cricket Council.
