The virus is spread even when people are not showing symptoms, Birx noted. “It is because of this asymptomatic spread that we are asking people to wear a mask indoors,” she said. “Decreasing these gatherings of friends and families where people get together and spread the virus without knowing it,” will also help slow the spread, she added.

Even if the current national seven-day average of around 166,000 daily cases peaked through the end of the year, nearly 7 million more people would still contract COVID-19, the Times said.
Although two very effective vaccines have been talked about this week, they won’t be widely available until spring 2021.
