Coi Leray maintains that she “sets the trends” indeed…despite the highly scrutinized first week sales of her album, “Trendsetter.”
TMZ Hip Hop caught up with rapper “Big Purr” outside Gunna‘s 420 party for her cannabis strain Wunnaland last night in Hollywood, and considering how many rap pundits threw punches at the upstart artist, she’s taking it all in stride.
Coi tells us she’s seen nothing but positive reviews and reactions, and insists her record ranks as a “great debut album.” She also alluded to her huge social media following (6 million on Instagram, 9.5 million on TikTok) being the main reason fans and critics thought she would release bigger stats.
The project has impactful features such as Nicki Minaj, Foreign Fivio, G Herbo, Lil Durk and HIS – and the deluxe version could potentially feature Antonio Brownwho also comes released their first album and makes an appearance in the middle of the interview.
The New Jersey-born rapper’s debut was a major point of contention after Billboard reported that it only sold 9,000 units in its first week.
Coi said his team’s reports show a higher number, but not a lot.
No baby I sold 11.5k and charted #89 on Billboard hot100 😍🤪💖🌎😍 thanks for everything 😘😘😘 https://t.co/rQk3Pt8sbY

She also tackled 1501 Certified Ent subliminal jabs. artist Erica Banks knocked in his direction earlier this week … when she claimed that Nicki Minaj (who features on “Blick, Blick!” with Coi) only records songs with girls who “can’t rap.”

While Coi tells TMZ Hip Hop that the Texas rapper may regret her comments down the line, she doesn’t give a damn, not even in her furry tote bag.
Next step: its headliner Monster Outbreak Tour across from Bronx drill star B-Lovee.
