Chi Chi DeVayne, ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Queen, Dead at 34
Chi Chi DeVayne – a fan favorite on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” who also competed on “All-Stars” – has died after being recently admitted to hospital with pneumonia.
According to Chi Chi’s family, the famous drag queen died Thursday morning in a hospital. Just a few days ago, Chi Chi shared a video from a hospital room saying they are “currently battling pneumonia” and asking for prayers.
DeVayne was also hospitalized in mid-July with apparent kidney failure linked to scleroderma, an autoimmune disease that the “ Drag Race ” star was diagnosed with in 2018.
During the dialysis treatment, Chi Chi wrote … “I let him go too long without going to the doctor and these are the consequences.”
Chi Chi, real name Zavion Davenport, stood out in Season 8 of ‘Drag Race’ in 2016 and finished in fourth place. Chi Chi later returned for season three of RuPaul’s “ All Stars ” competition in early 2018 and placed eighth.
RuPaul says he is heartbroken over Chi Chi’s passing, but “grateful that we were able to experience his kind and beautiful soul.” He adds … “She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine upon us all.”
Chi Chi was 34 years old.
