Chadwick Boseman Honored at MTV VMAs in Touching Tribute
Chadwick Boseman just got a shout out at the MTV Video Music Awards – and the way they did it is to go back on a speech he once gave at the ceremony.
Sunday’s show – which was completely virtual this year due to the pandemic – was a full tribute to the late actor … with the official VMA Twitter account saying they were putting him in his honor.
The main host, Keke Palmer, also made sure to shout Chadwick from the start of the series, saying, “We dedicate tonight’s show to the man whose spirit has touched so many people. He’s a true hero, not just to screen but in everything he has done. His impact is everlasting. “
Shortly after the show, MTV paid full tribute to Chadwick … by replaying his acceptance speech at the 2018 VMAs when he won the Best Hero award for his portrayal of the Black Panther. The opening title card for the clip read, “The world needs more superheroes” … then she launched into Chadwick’s remarks.
At the time, he actually took a moment to honor a real-life superhero he wanted to recognize … a James Shaw Jr., who arrested a gunman at a Tennessee Waffle House. The fact that Chadwick shared the spotlight was amazing and clearly not forgotten by the folks at MTV.
They ended her segment with another title card titled “Stay in Power”. Indeed.
Our sincere thanks to
