The grave of Alonzo brooks – who was mysteriously found dead after a party in 2004 in Kansas – was unearthed in the wake of “Unsolved Mysteries” bringing new attention to the cold matter.
Alonzo’s body was exhumed in Topeka Tuesday morning after the FBI recently reopened the case. The new Netflix series has covered Alonzo’s disappearance and death – and his family say hints have arrived since the new docuseries came out.
For those who haven’t seen him … Alonzo, 23, went to a party in La Cygne, KS in April 2004 with friends, where he was considered one of the few black people. Witnesses described the crowd as primarily white, red and racist types.
His friend says Alonzo almost got into a fight with a guy for a girl – but he always stayed at the party, even after his friends left. He never returned home.
The next day, Brooks’ boots and hat were found in front of the party property. However, his body was not discovered until May 1, 2004 in a nearby cove.
Early medical reports indicated his death was inconclusive due to the body’s advanced decomposition, and authorities were left with little concrete evidence. However, his relatives were certain that he had not accidentally committed suicide or drowned … they believed he had been murdered.
The FBI now calls his death a hate crime and has also offered a reward of $ 100,000 for information leading to an arrest. Based on the exhumation of Alonzo’s body, first reported by KSNT, there may be serious progress in the matter.
