Biggie’s Plastic Crown From Famed Shoot Sells for $594k at Auction
the Notorious BIGThe famous crown of the King of New York has just been passed to another for an absurd price – over half a million dollars, which is just a little north of OG Street value.
That’s right, the helmet Biggie wore in his iconic 1997 final photoshoot – which was duplicated in prints thousands of times – just sold in a Sotheby’s auction … ultimately to a bidder who was willing to spend a lot. $ 594,750 for the thing.
Pretty badass, right?!? Well, maybe … keep in mind that the crown is actually plastic – and ended up costing the photographer who first used it with Biggie just $ 6 off on the street. .
Do the math … and that’s about a 10,000,000% markup in value. And, all because the crown was worn by BIG – plus the fact that it has become a staple in pop culture.
And, take this – the photog, Barron Claiborne, says that the concept of the crown hardly happened … and that’s apparently because Diddy didn’t feel it at the time, supposedly saying it was going to make Biggie look like “Burger King.” But Big Poppa didn’t care … he wore it anyway.
As they say, the head that wears the crown is heavy. And the price is even heavier.
