Ben crump said the huge reserve of money Jeff Bezos just donated to Van Jones could do a lot for a cause close to their hearts: helping black people learn the law.
Civil rights lawyer tells TMZ … that he plans to talk to his good friend Van about using part of this $ 100 million donation from Bezos to help partially fund something Ben has been working for quite some time… namely, a one-stop-shop law center in Florida.
It’s called The Ben Crump Social Justice Law Center – tucked away at St. Thomas University College of Law in Miami Gardens – and the goal is to offer disadvantaged and disadvantaged African Americans the opportunity to study to become lawyers.
We’re told the initiative specifically targets first-generation black students and law students.
The startup is already underway, as Ben says they’ve been accepting donations for some time, but adds that Van’s help could help put an end to the ongoing work.
During the speech accepting Bezos’ Courage and Civility Prize, Van alluded to making sure that the $ 100 million falls into the hands of grassroots activists.
Looks like Ben’s project might be right for him… as Crump has worked tirelessly, for over a year now, with grassroots activism groups across the country.
Our sincere thanks to
