7:49 a.m. PT – Alec Baldwin speaks for himself amid mixed new findings about his potential culpability in the fatal ‘Rust’ shooting – and while it looks like he did it before all of this was out… it’s is nevertheless interesting.
AB recently did an interview with none other than Chris Cuomo – which now has its own small network – and the sit-down aired on Tuesday. In the videoChris asks Alec about all the fallout and how he’s dealing with it…and Alec definitely says he’s not the victim here.
He points out that Halyna is the victim and that he’ll probably get over this saga…sooner or later. But that said, he defends himself again — saying he knows what happened, just like the people who were on set that day. Alec suggests that all of the armchair speculation and analysis from the media and others is meaningless… and he’s sure his name will be cleared.
Again, this interview appears to have been done before the FBI released their report… which says he must have pulled the trigger. In his conversation with Cuomo, Alec says that didn’t happen – so he’s sticking to his story here and seems content to drop the chips where they can.
The FBI is wrong about Alec Baldwin pull the trigger on the set of ‘Rust’ – so says the actor’s lawyer, who believes the Bureau’s report is wrong.
Luke NikasAB’s lawyer, gave his opinion to Fox News on Monday – this as The death of Halyna Hutchins was officially ruled an accident the same day – saying feds are wrong to conclude that Alec pulled the trigger…because the tests they’ve done don’t show it.
Nikas says, “The FBI report is being misinterpreted.” He adds: “The weapon only fired once in testing – without having to pull the trigger – when the hammer was pulled back and the weapon broke in two different places. The FBI was unable to fire the gun in an earlier test, even when pulling the trigger, because it was in such poor condition.”
Essentially, Nikas seems to be suggesting either that the report’s conclusions are distorted – seeing as they were only reviewed/reported by ABC – or that the FBI simply misrepresented what they actually did in the lab to get to the bottom of the matter. things. Either way, he claims it’s bullshit.
You will recall…the FBI, for ABC, said there was no way the gun Alec was using had detonated without him pulling the trigger, as they tried to fire by simply wielding the hammer – which Alec said what he had done. They insisted… when the gun works well, it’s impossible.
Alec Baldwin must have pulled the trigger in the filming of “Rust”, concludes the FBI
While it was unclear from the ABC report (and the language quoted in the report) whether the FBI had actually tested the ancient revolver in question, Nikas seems to imply that they did.
Here’s another thing…Nikas says the FBI report on the weapon doesn’t even matter, all in all, because the Santa Fe Office of the Medical Investigator came back with their own crucial discovery on the Halyna’s death…and they officially ruled it an accident.
Nikas says: “The critical report is that of the medical examiner, who concluded that it was a tragic accident. This is the third time New Mexico authorities have discovered that Alec Baldwin had no authority or knowledge of the allegedly dangerous conditions on set, that the person in charge of on-set security told him that the weapon was “cold” and that she thought the weapon was safe”.
All of these findings – those of the FBI and the medical investigator – were sent to New Mexico officials for further review. The DA has not yet made decision on criminal charges.
Alec, of course, has already been brought to civil justice … but denied any responsibility.
