2:06 p.m. PT – Sharpton tells us: “Lawyer Kevin Gough’s arrogant callousness in asking a judge to ban me or ban me from any family minister he chooses underlines contempt for the value of lost human life and the mourning of a family in need of spiritual and community support. “
He continues: “I respect the defense lawyer who does his job but it goes beyond defending your client, it is insulting the victim’s family.”
Counsel for the accused William ‘Roddie’ Bryan in the Ahmaud Arbery the lawsuit complained to the judge … the “black pastors” coming to court and sitting with the family is unfair.
Lawyer Kevin gough expressed his displeasure in open court after the Reverend. Al sharpton came forward to sit with Arbery’s family in the courtroom.
Gough growled, “I have nothing personally against Mr. Sharpton… but if we start a precedent where we’re going to bring leading members of the African American community into the courtroom to sit with the family for the jury trial, I think it’s intimidating and it’s an attempt to consciously or unconsciously pressure or influence the jury. ”
And, he continues … “… if their pastor is Al Sharpton right now, that’s fine, but that’s it. We don’t want black pastors coming here anymore. Jesse Jackson, the one who was here earlier this week sitting with the victim’s family trying to influence the jury in this case. “
BTW … Jesse Jackson has never been in the courtroom. It may be referring to the lawyer Ben crump, who was in court earlier in the week.
The judge was less than receptive, interrupting Gough and ending his argument, after the lawyer referred to Col. Sanders.
