Spending sleepless nights studying for those big tests and wracking your brain to finish those academic papers, you need some time away from grabbing those straight A’s. Many students get worried about the price when going on a trip with friends. Believe it or not there are plenty of affordable vacation spots out there, whether you are looking for some sunshine during your winter break, some fun during your spring break or a new experience during our summer break.

There is something for everyone.

Daytona Beach Florida:

If you are looking for crowds of college kids, sunshine and some nightlife action, the beach should be your next spring break destination. There are plenty of activities you can do including beach volleyball, rock climbing or renting a motorbike to drive down the beach.

The hotel offers cheap deals for staying right on the beach. Daytona is also known for its nightlife. There are many nightclubs within walking distance from the beach, but Daytona also offers its own party bus that will take you from the beach to several different nightclubs for free.


You are probably thinking that the Bahamas have no place on a list of affordable summer vacations for students. There are a number of late deals available including hotels and flights and you won’t need much money when you actually get there.


San Juan Puerto Rico

San Juan Puerto Rico is an easy trip for American students because flights usually aren’t too long or expensive and you don’t even need a passport since it’s a U.S. territory. The San Juan has lots of student’s friendly hostels that have rates as low as $15 per night. You will get to meet other students and tourists from around the world and enjoy a fun party scene with local rum packed mojitos. Walk over to La Plaza del Mercado in Santurce where there are authentic restaurants and bars run by locals. You will also find happy hours on drinks.

If you are tight on cash and can’t afford a vacation abroad, there are plenty of cheaper summer vacation options that you can enjoy here in the states. These vacations are perfect during summer because they focus on activities that occur outside. So don’t get cooped up indoors and go enjoy the warm weather.

Camping is the perfect summer vacation for college students since it is not expensive. There is no need to worry about the cost of airfare or your accommodations.

Road Trip:

If you have access to a car and enough money to club together for petrol, you’ve got to go for a vacation. Take a map along with you on your road trip. Make a point to take a break from driving every few hours and get out and explore every third place you drive through. Check random restaurants to eat out, explore random attractors and create some amazing memories of your country. Just make sure you abide by the law.

European countries are very cheap. Wine is two to three Euros. While some food even comes free with alcohol. Transportation is quiet affordable but it takes half an hour to get from one country to the next.


If you’re planning to visit the states, Colorado is for you. Colorado is a popular destination for college students especially the spring or winter break. Colorado is a home to some famous ski mountains. Affordable ski packages are available for students.

Volunteer while you vacation:

If you are looking for a fun affordable summer trip, Project Abroad is an organization that allows college students to travel internationally while also giving back to the countries they visit. Instead of paying to stay in a hotel or a hostel, you can stay with the family. Those family who you have volunteered for. This is a great option for those looking to work as a volunteer. Be immersed in a new culture for summer without burning a hole in your pocket.

Of course, summer vacations for students don’t have to involve traveling either. Even just roughing it outside can be an experience and teach some amazing life skills. The important part is that you spend your time doing something that you enjoy, learning things and throwing yourself into the world. You’ll be glad you did.
