Adult S’poreans To Get $100 Tourism Vouchers In December 2020
Last month, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced that S $ 320 million would be earmarked for tourism credits.
Called SingaporeRediscovers Vouchers, they aim to boost the struggling local tourism industry.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) announced today (September 16) that Singaporeans aged 18 and over this year will each receive S $ 100 in digital vouchers.
These coupons are exclusive to Singaporeans; Permanent residents cannot benefit from it.
SingaporeRediscovers coupons will come in denominations of $ 10 and can be used at all licensed hotels, leisure attractions and for local tours by operators who have received Singapore Tourism Board (STB) approval to reopen or resume.
These include Singapore’s four animal parks, a number of activities and hotels on Sentosa, and guided tours of Pulau Ubin.
These vouchers will be accessible via SingPass from December and can be used to offset ticket purchases and hotel stays until the end of June next year.
Part of the measures to stimulate the economy of S’pore
According to Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing, the duration of the voucher program is scheduled to coincide with the June and December holidays and to distribute demand between the two.
“This is an economic program intended to help our tourist attractions to preserve their capacities which have developed over their years while consolidating capacity in the meantime,” he added.
The vouchers complement the Singapore $ 45 million marketing campaign, launched in July to encourage locals to vacation at home and support local businesses.
More than 200 deals and packages have been launched so far, and the vouchers will give locals more incentive to rediscover their backyards, according to STB.
He added that specific details on how the vouchers can be used will be announced in November.
